PORTLAND, Maine and PROVIDENCE, R.I. – January 26th, 2010 -- Emery-Waterhouse, a leading distributor of hardlines and building materials, today announced that its Marketplace 2010 annual trade show has come to a successful close. With attendance up 10% over 2009, the company’s customers went to meet face to face with Emery employees, become more familiar with merchandising strategies and see new lines and products available through both Emery-Waterhouse and their Building Materials division, Emery-Building Materials.

Mike Butts, Contributing Editor for ProSales magazine, spoke at the Thursday night Pro Event on the basics of business management, logistics control, construction management and business-to-business relationship building. The evening featured education within select vendor booths and hands-on demos of new and innovative tools, including Stanley Bostitch’s launch of premium hand tools and a sneak preview of the new Bostitch line of cordless pneumatic tools. “The Pro Night Event tied in very well with Stanley’s continued focus on new products, giving us an opportunity to formally introduce our new Bostitch Hand Tool program and other new product development to the specific dealer base for which it is intended the Pro dealer," said Greg Baczek, Key Account Manager, Stanley Bostitch. “With interactive product demonstrations, and an appearance by Tom Silva, contributor to this Old House magazine, traffic in our booth was strong all night, and this event really set the stage for a successful show."

One of Emery Waterhouse’s key strategies is to help its dealers increase sales and average ticket size through effective merchandising techniques. The Retail Execution area highlighted this by demonstrating how to better utilize high traffic areas such as store fronts, end caps, stack-outs, and cash wrap. The area allowed dealers an opportunity to talk with Emery staff about their unique needs and apply what they learned in an interactive area.

In other highlights, the show addressed the rise in DIY projects by demonstrating the breadth of the Emery paint department, housewares, maintenance and repair departments, with over 75 vendors across the category participating. In addition, Emery-Waterhouse also highlighted an opening price point assortment. This area demonstrated how being an owner of Distribution America gives Emery the ability to help retailers in today’s competitive market with pricing power.

"This was our first Emery show. The Emery staff could not have been more hospitable,” said Jim Bonner, Manager, Cerbo Lumber & Hardware. “With the help of Emery's knowledgeable people & experience, we are very confident of growth moving forward together.” Cerbo Lumber and Hardware has been a family owned business since 1948.
